*** When Ryuko goes on a berserk rampage after [[spoiler:Nui reveals herself as her father's killer]], he is tasked with taking her down with [[Anime/MobileSuitGundam00 a]] sniper [[LightNovel/FullMetalPanic rifle]].

* EstablishingSeriesMoment: A teacher is in the middle of a rather boring lecture on the rise of Hitler when an enormous foot breaks down the door, which [[StuffBlowingUp explodes]]. [[IncomingHam Gamagoori enters]], a student drops a tear-gas bomb, Gamagoori jumps out a window to intercept him, the student dons his power-enhancing school uniform, and several mind-boggling camera angles later an epic [[WhipItGood Whip-im To Groundpork punishment]] ensues. After said student is hung on display as a warning to future would-be thieves, we get Satsuki's EstablishingCharacterMoment. All within the first four minutes of the show.

* {{Fanservice}}: ''Rampant''. Using clothing as a source or symbol of power is a recurring motif in the series, and the concept of being (metaphorically, but also literally) naked is used as a sign of resolve. But at the end of the day, there's no shortage of scenes that are probably there for the sake of the fans as well.

*** A student with GagBoobs for eyes staring at Ryuko when she shocks everyone by shrugging off Takaharu's punch.

* AuthorityGrantsAsskicking: Student Council members, club presidents, and select students get special uniforms that power them up according to their rank.

* SlapstickKnowsNoGender: Just because there's lots of {{Fanservice}} and ClothingDamage doesn't mean the female characters aren't immune to getting brutalized as much as the male ones.

* OffModel:
** Episode 4 is drawn in a very cheap-looking style, and uses a bare minimum of animation when it can get away with it. The quality is used as much as a stylistic homage to the infamous fourth episode of ''Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann'' as it is to cut down on costs.
** Mako's face is constantly lacking a nose. Given the series' art style, it's hard to tell when it's intentional, and when it's just bad outsourcing.

* JiggleShow: Due to the nature of the series, Ryuko and Satsuki's {{Transformation Sequence}}s are ''full'' of this. When they run or there is a power wind blowing (i.e. ''all'' the time in every fight), there is a lot of jiggling. This is to be expected, considering most of Studio Trigger used to work for Gainax.

''Kill la Kill'' was also ''heavily'' influenced by the [[TheEighties 1980s]] comedy/battle seinen anime film ''Anime/ProjectAKo'', which featured almost identical character dynamics and types amongst its main female protagonists, and a similar main conflict. It was also heavily influenced by ''Manga/CuteyHoney'', with Ryuko having a similar origin story to Honey. ''Kill la Kill'' was originally conceived as a manga focused entirely on battle scenes, but it shifted during production to become more character-focused.

* ImageSong: Part of Creator/HiroyukiSawano's style is to write lyrics that has some contextual significance to the series they feature in, even if only in a vague premise. Kill La Kill is no exception.

** The scene of [[spoiler:Satsuki naked and chained up in a cage being physically, psychologically, and sexually abused by Ragyo]] in Episode 19. It's designed to be very unappealing to view, really amplifies [[spoiler:the implied ParentalIncest]], and even ends with the disturbing image of [[spoiler:Satsuki giving a DeathGlare to the camera as Ragyo spanks her ass]] that would do away with any feelings of arousal.

** Nui Harime's introduction is set to an ominous sounding music, despite being a cute ElegantGothicLolita [[PerpetualSmiler who always wears a big goofy smile.]]

** Ryuko's WeaponOfChoice is one half of a giant pair of scissors [[spoiler:created by her father to cut Life Fibers]]. The other half is wielded by the insane Nui Harime, [[spoiler: the woman who murdered her father while stealing said weapon]].

** Invoked and averted near the end when Satsuki intentionally distracts Ragyo by getting her to start [[EvilGloating gloating]] so that Ryuko can attack the Primordial Life Fiber. Satsuki then mocks Ragyo for [[WhyDontYouJustShootHim wasting time to brag.]]

* AlienLunch: SubvertedTrope: Even though the croquettes made by Mako's mom contain some weird stuff, some of it is still moving when served, they are considered to be tasty.

* ConvenientlyEmptyRoads: In episode 8, after Ryuko and Mako are forced to get a ride with Gamagoori (who has learned to drive), their ride is attacked by the 'auto-airsoft club', taking a chance at a potential promotion by taking down Gamagoori. The roads are surprisingly clear for the ensuing battle.
