For me, the DC Animated Movie Universe started off fairly disappointing with Justice League War being the proper introduction of this universe, but it picked up with Justice League Throne of Atlantis and to an extent, Batman Bad Blood.
This movie from start to finish reads like a grimdark "deconstruction" of the DC universe written by some edgy teenager. Starting with a poorly implemented plan to attack Darkseid's home of Apokolips, we're treated to tons of over the top violence and mutilation of iconic characters, as well as the casual murder and torture of tons of heroes on both Apokolips and Earth. The movie doesn't get much better, with the Earth being a ruined wasteland and anyone left who could stop Darkseid is brainwashed into serving him, completely ineffectual or unceremoniously killed off.
By the end, even after he's dragged off into a Boom Tube by Trigon and Cyborg, Darkseid wins. Earth and it's people are damaged beyond repair and the surviving heroes are broken. So Flash then goes back in time to prevent it because John Constantine tells him to and that's how this continuity ends.
WesternAnimation A needlessly grimdark ending to this universe
