As probably one of the few people to have bought this indie game, it looked to be an interesting small buy on Steam.
On its own the game is hardly bad. It's subtle humor and parodic jabs were enjoyable and the idea of building a ship to blast at others for absurd chunks of loot is a concept I would be quite happy to indulge in on any OS. The game itself is essentially a "Loot and Shoot RPG" taking the "Hack and Slash" genre and shifting it into the cockpit of a sharship in 3-d space dogfighting, a noble and theoretically original idea in and of itself.
Of course it does have its faults...
There is no voice acting, as such missions often suffer becoming "cutscenes" consisting of a simple objective and walls of text.
The sandbox aspect of the game is rather limited. It exists, its simply that there is little variation among the different areas of the game. You have an expanse of free roaming within a certain map size, some enemies, floating asteroids and some top shaped "orbital stations that fill up most maps. As such there is limited variation in level design.
The main quest line itself is enjoyable with a variety of missions, but all too often the missions themselves involve the standard do "X" "Y" many times point that weighs down upon so many MMO's and RPG's.
All and all one might see it as a very dull game whose mechanics and graphical standards are ten years too late on the market. However where it honestly shines is the combat. The frenetic frenzy of being bombarded by enemy ships and exploding loot and trying to manage it all is a sort of state of being I spent every moment I could sipping in. If nothing else, stay for the loot and shoot.
All in all it was a valiant effort by its creator that I applaud for the effort, even if it might seem dull or lacking. Had such a game been released ten or so years ago it could have stood out on the market, but as it stands its merely another silly space shooter. For a five dollar download though I certainly can't complain though, you get out what you get in.
At the end of the day this isn't a game for everyone, you have nothing to be ashamed of for enjoying it, but you won't be missing out on much if you don't take it up.
VideoGame (Puts on Jaded Shades) Ehh.
