Having originally played this game as a kid, I recently replayed it and found that it has held up surprisingly well. What I appreciate most about the game is the sense of innovation. This game came out when 3D was coming into vogue, and while not being fully 3D, it does incorporate some 3D elements.
Out of ten levels, only three consist of traditional 2D platforming. There are three "gauntlet" levels which are 3D, but restrict Hercules to running forward and having to dodge obstacles. Then there are two levels that consist of a single boss battle, with the boss in the middle of a cylindrical arena. A level in which you have to fly on Pegasus rounds out the gameplay roster.
There are really only two disappointing aspects to this game. The first is that it is not very challenging. Even as a kid I had little trouble with this game, and replaying it on the highest diffiulty setting, the only level that gave me any trouble was the battle against meduse. Secondly, the final battle against Hades is very disapointing, just extremely underwhelming. But overall, it has held up well, it captures the atmosphere of the film, and kept me pleasantly occupied for its short duration.
