If I had two words to describe this show it would be "slow" and "underwhelming".
The biggest problem is the slow pacing which leaves each episode feeling like a drag. It was a mistake to put more focus on the parents, they've been made far too sympathetic to the point that the supposed conflict between the parents and the kids feels wishy washy. I did not care for the plot about invisible energy aliens that possess people, it felt like an obvious cost saving tactic. Morgan Le Fey did make for an amusing villainess in the second half of season three, and I almost wish there was a love triangle between her, Nico and Karolina, instead of the nothing burger that Xavin's role turned out to be.
It also feels a tad sanitized, Nico doesn't bleed, the sacrifice victims got placed into a glowing box instead of being stabbed. Chase no longer has any street smarts. Alex is no longer a mole but simply possessed by one of the invisible energy aliens. The first season's aversion to magic and saying that the Staff of One is powered by nanobots felt like a badly aged relic of MCU Phase One, and it was hilarious that they do a complete 180 on it by season 3. Furthermore I thought it looked silly that Nico and her parents suddenly have martial arts in season 2 that come out of nowhere. Its also a bummer that Old Lace barely did anything, and Molly's super strength is just used for lifting things. Gert looked like a cringe worthy parody of feminists.
I would say the only strengths this show did have was the acting and the diversity. Its pretty funny that this show was the reason I first subscribed to Hulu then Hulu gets it removed for some tax write off reason. Its a shame there's no DVD release for the few people who did happen to like this.
Series Its somewhat sad that its now lost media, but it was still subpar.
