So, one thing that this film does absolutely amazing that its predecessor did was TENSION. For a film involving cartel wars, kidnapping, the US military/CIA, assassins... there's actually not that much violence. The violence that exists is extremely brutal and absolutely no-nonsense, but almost every scene is all about the buildup.
That said, the film as a whole doesn't build up well overall. Lots of stuff happens, you see a lot of buildup to the halfway point of the film when you think things are REALLY going to take off, and then... well, it's kind of a twist? Not so much a twist as it is the old adage "No plan survives contact with the enemy." The film kind of feels like a reset, builds things up a little more but this time the motivations aren't really as clear as the first half. Things happen again and...
the film ends.
I guess you could call it a conclusion, it's the kind of "and life goes on" type of unsatisfying conclusion. The events of the film happened, and that was... it? It just wasn't all that satisfying. The ride was great, the destination, uh, exists. That's all. Still somewhat hoping for another sequel though. 7.5/10 I guess.
