Mission Impossible (1996) is a cleverly plotted, highly unpredictable spy thriller with a likable protagonist. Lots of plot twists here. What really makes the film distinct is that it's not an action movie, even though it's a spy-based blockbuster. Our hero never fires a gun, and until the last 20 minutes he manages to accomplish all his objectives by negotiating, sneaky heists, and doing detective work. The famous Langley "Mission: Impossible" Cable Drop scene alone is worth seeing the film. Plus, the movie's got lots of cool Dutch Angle shots. If the movie has any weakness, it's the identity of the villain (it's kind of disrespectful to the TV show the movie's based on). But if you can get past that, it's a very well-made spy movie that's extremely different from other spy movies.
Film A great film, should you choose to accept it
