I saw this a while back (Sadly not in theatres), and I honestly had very little idea what to expect. I knew the visual style (It was the same guy who did the music video for 'The Islander'), bu storywise, I had no idea. But when I saw it I loved every moment of it! Sure, none of it was uite Hollyqood quality, but for the budget it had, the visuals were amazing (I like to see it as an athouse film with a mainstream budget), the acting was pretty good (Especially young Tom, and the band's cameos were all enjoyably hammy), and don't get me started on the soundtrack! Imaginaerum is probably my favouite Nightwish album ever, so it was great fun listening to the little musical cues and going "AH!, I recognise that, that musical cue is from [Insert name of song]", and it all tied together nicely. It also made me look at the original songs in a very different new light.
Oh, and I won't spoil anything, but at the end there is a twist, where we learn a secret concerning Mr White the snowman, and who he is in Thomas' mind. Needless to say, it was one of the few twist endings or reveals in a film that genuinely made me think "Holy crap, that's genius!!"
For Nightwish fans, this is required viewing. But casual viewers should enjoy it too. But be prepared, it does get weird at times.
