Like so many great concepts, this is a Dead Fic; it has only three extant chapters, but what chapters! This is an amazing Else World in which the Children are not pilots but instead can manipulate quantum physics to do things that look like superpowers. Many, many things are different from canon, but according to the author all these differences stem back to a single change from the original timeline. Worth a look if you don't mind the frustration of yet another "might have been" fic.
