"Tabloid" answers the questions about what capes do when they're not fighting, and what the PRT does outside of shooting containment foam. It's a deeper look into the world of Worm, Earth Bet, and how the nuts and bolts of the Protectorate/PRT actually work, from the point of view of an Everyman Protagonist. A bit of a deviation from many Worm fanfics, and doesn't replicate the original style and feel of Wildbow's original Worm, but it does its own thing well. The slower pace, daily life, and introspection really work. You get a real feel of what life is like at the street level, the protagonist Tabloid is competent and observant, and best of all, very funny in a snarky way.
Oh, and there's high quality artwork, which is why the fic is labelled as an "Artfic" by the author. Illustrations go with every chapter, and they represent a photograph that Tabloid took in-story.
"Tabloid" expands on the wide world built by Wildbow, and the interactions with well-known Brockton Bay regulars feel genuine. However, it is unfinished (as this review is being written), and each chapter is mostly self-contained which is another way in which it diverges from the non-stop action of Worm. There is not much action and fighting, either.
I still found it enjoyable. The story takes place pre-canon, and the events tie in neatly with the canon timeline, and add so much more depth to characters like Armsmaster.
