It is a good story overall. Characters all feel pretty alive and fleshed out, writing is good, story is decent, and it has a good blend of human and emotional moments. Overall solid writing. The main duo exorcising felt pretty plausible. The details about the eastern and western dragons being nearly extinct is a neat detail and really sells just how deadly and costly Malefor’s war was on the realm.
The flaws: the cheetahs brothers did not add very much to the story and could probably have been removed from it. Overall they felt pointless. Though it is touched upon plenty, it feels as though there still could have been more time devoted to Dwayne and Lisa’s relationship. Lisa also lacked way too much development with her own relationship with her father. Additionally, it still feels as though more time could have been spent on the protagonists instead of some of the rest of the cast.
Finally, Cynder’s harsh words to train Lisa felt a bit too mean spirited, even if out of necessity. Additionally, her willingness to let Lisa fight in the climax is jarring and reckless, considering Lisa is only a 12 year old kid, and nearly died during the battle. Blaze at least acknowledged this and chewed Cynder out for it. Similarly, it’s jarring they took Lisa to fight the Sorceress as well.
