Runescape: Your Mileage May Vary. A lot.

Oh, Runescape. I'm not quite sure what to think about you. You have a lot of good features, as well as some bad ones. Like I said, Your Mileage May Vary.

Combat is okay, but could do with a bit more balance. You have to be prepared for everything, and I mean EVERYTHING. You need to have good melee skills, magic skills, and range skills if you want to have any chance of surviving. Accidentally wandering into a dungeon filled with aggressive demons can mean the quick death of you. Plus you can't dodge projectiles. Once something fires an arrow or magic spell at you, it's gonna hit you, no matter what. Also it requires grinding. A LOT of grinding.

The world is beautiful, ranging from icy mountains to grassy plains, to the howling desert. The problem? If you want to see 75% of the beautiful scenery, you need to become a member.

Gameplay is pretty simple, simple enough for anybody to play. Click here, move there, chop down some trees, fish some trout, mine some rocks. There's nothing too complicated.

If we worked on a rating system for reviews, I'd give it a 9/10. 1 point off for having to be a member just to access 95% of game content.

Eh, you can get along fine with just melee for pretty much the whole game, with a few exceptions. I mean, there's a couple places like the Barrows or Dagannoth Rex where you want to fight with magic, and sometimes ranged attacks can be used from safe spots so you don't take damage, but most of the time you can either hack at it or run from it, scimitar in hand, and come out okay.

Okay, Daemonheim kinda wants all three styles, but most of the overworld you can specialize just fine.

Rhymes with "Protracted."

Taking off a point just because the game isn't completely free? Interesting rating system you have there.

It's not because it isn't completely free. It's because of how much Jagex panders it being "free." Oh sure, you can have a free account, that is if you want to be restricted to 1/3 of the map and only have 19 quests and 4 activities. Even something as simple as taking a picture of your character to display on the forums and having an adventurer's log is restricted to members.

And besides, I only took off one point.

Something witty should probably go here.

Ok, so it's taking off a point because you don't like Jagex's advertising methods.

If it was taking off one point for not being free, every game that isn't free would automatically lose a point, which would have been ridiculous, so that's why I commented on that.
