Waking the Fallen: A Masterpiece

The band's masterpiece.

Waking the Fallen is not something I can easily talk about in depth. If I wanted 2 make a true review of how I feel about this album, it would go beyond breaking the 3000 character rule. 1 of my favorite albums ever, if not my favorite, Waking the Fallen is everything from StST, but refined and polished 2 such a degree it's distinguishable yet can be compared 2 it's predecessor. People often put it with the greats, I.E. self titled and City of Evil, yet still keep it near StST in terms of era. And that's because of the similarites. The production is still raw as hell and Harsh Vocals are still there. But that's pretty much where it ends.

Everything about Waking is on a much more grand scale. The songs are bigger, and more complex. That isn't 2 say certain songs on StST weren't nuanced, but this is a whole nother level. The guitar playing was already good b4, but it's even better here. There's soloes! I bet you 4got there aren't any soloes on StST, huh? Shadows' voice is finally what we know it as. Not really, but the difference is kinda subtle. Shadows' normal voice is finally what we know it as. Not really, but the difference from here 2 City of Evil is somewhat subtle. Even better, the heavy and aggresive nature is unchanged.

Every song on here is so damn good. Intricate, nuanced. They deserve reviews of their own. Even the god damn intro. The intro is an atmospheric view in2 the album and the transition 2 Unholy Confessions gives me life. On that note, Unholy Confessions is pretty similar 2 Turn The Other Way. Both are nice and compact versions of what you should be expecting from the album. Heaviness, screaming, and that 1 part of the song you wish would go away but you choose 2 live with it anyway. I Won't See You Tonight is also a banger and a god damn tearjerker. I feel like I wanna cry any time it comes on.

We can also see a glimpse of future material from this album. And All Things Will End seems like it would fit on City of Evil without the metalcore voice. We also see other instruments used on here, obviously piano but also some strings and possibly carol bells. But really we just get a perfect album with a sound that, while inspired from 4 future reference, was never replicated by anybody.

I wanna write more 4 this album, I really do. It's probably my favorite album ever. Curse you, character limits.
