Ascendant is a good fanfic that is dragged down by it's following of cannon. The fanfic is good, whenever the author does a side plot, it's good and the author handles an overpowered main character very well, but it never reaches it's full potential, because the author seems afraid of escaping canon. This entire story follows the stations of cannon too closely, and although it doesn't drag the fanfic down that much, it keeps it from reaching it's full potential, like many other fanfics. But that aside, it's a good fanfic with decent grammar and good storytelling.
