Read like a fever dream, but pretty funny (no spoilers)

Everything about this story was ridiculously dramatic and over the top, to the point of Narm. None of the characters were particularly realistic. The plot didn't make much sense, but it was fairly amusing. The story reminded me of a cross between Louisa May Alcott's short story "The Candy Country" and Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. All in all, it couldn't be taken seriously, but it was amusing in the same way parodies are amusing. If you feel like reading something very strange, The Nutcracker may be the book for you. I read this fan translation: There were some errors, but it was good enough, and it's free.
