This story has so much potential. It hurts my soul there to know that is not more to it.
But it works well on its own.
It is dated, sure. This particular Naruto fanfiction has been written on the 24th of December, 2006.
For example:
Naruto is the Sixth Hokage, instead of Kakashi. After 10 years he is not yet carved into the mountain.
Naruto is not romantically involved with Hinata in any fashion. He has feelings for Sakura, who is married -and has three children- with Sasuke.
Naruto is dying from the chakra of the Kyuubi poisoning his body. I am not too familiar with the specifics, but the Uzumaki in general were most suited to handling the chakra of the Kyuubi, if I recall correctly.
But the story still works beautifully! It is touching and bittersweet with the what-ifs:
Sakura's and Naruto's unresolved relationship
The aftermath of Naruto's passing
The letters he sent out to those he couldn't reach in time.
All of their reactions. From Shock to Anger. To Grief and Acceptance. To Shame and Regret.
All of their tears, be it sad and wistful at his passing or happy and grateful at his accomplishments.
All of their musings and final interactions. At the funeral. The procession. The wake.
It is the wonderful, sad, bittersweet piece of story.
