Underwhelming, but Has a Certain Charm to It

I'm probably not going to make any friends here by admitting this, but I genuinely enjoy DCEU movies. I find them about on par with the MCU, and I generally don't understand why people despise them as much as they do (except for Man of Steel which, yeah, really did kinda suck.) I was genuinely looking forward to this one - especially after finding out that there would be a change of direction for the DCEU and that Joss Whedon himself would man the helm in the wake of the tragedy surrounding Zack Snyder's family.

How did it turn out?

... eh. Could be better. Could be worse.

The film's biggest flaw is its pacing. I felt like it took too long establishing the conflict and not enough time fully uniting the team, and the last act of the film moved too quickly in an effort to wrap everything up. This results in Superman doing everything by himself and making the rest of the League look superfluous in comparison.

That's not to say there weren't positives. There were many genuinely cool action scenes, the jokes, while hit-and-miss, were really more hit than miss, the acting was phenomenal - they did a good job setting up the characters of Aquaman, Flash, Cyborg, and Gordon for future stories, and it was fun watching Ciaran Hinds ham it up as Steppenwolf - and the dialogue and character interactions (ESPECIALLY between Superman and Lois) definitely packed an emotional punch.

As for the special effects, they were pretty well done, all things considered. The scenery and character designs were breathtaking, and the action scenes in particular were very convincing. That whole controversy about Henry Caville's mustache was blown out of proportion; it was just a few frames out of the entire movie - blink and you'll miss it. Yeah, people on the Internet making mountains out of molehills - who would've thought? I heard people complain about "Too much CGI", and I really don't understand that. There really wasn't any more or less CGI here than in your average superhero movie, but people were acting like they were doing something differently when they clearly were not. I'm not one for wild accusations, but it seemed to me that people were just making up stuff to complain about.

In conclusion, Justice League is an average but enjoyable film that has some plot issues but overall is not as bad as its reputation goes.
