Rise of the Demon King

Now, I must admit that when I first heard about this series, I was a bit skeptical. I mean, come on, a guy raising the son of the devil? What in the world can you do with a concept like that?!?! But, as I kept reading, I realized that the genius isn't in characterization, although its fun to see everyone's favorite tropes played with, but in the comedy.

I mean, the series starts with a delinquent and his friend, and the delinquent starts spouting these blatant lies about what a cool, handsome guy he is, etc. You can tell from there that the series will be a comedy to the core, and it certainly doesn't disappoint. Running from the usual boob and poop jokes to nerd in-humor to some absolutely hilarious facial expressions, the series will keep you in stitches for a long time.

Not to mention the lovable characters. I mean, the first time we see Oga we know that he is going to be majorly badass (considering how evil looking he is for a good guy). The other characters are also lovably quirky and fun, and if there are serious moments, they're treated appropriately, and then bounced back with A LOT of humor.

Overall, if you're looking for an in-depth story with a lot of twists and turns, as well as poignancy and relevance to the modern world, Beelzebub isn't it. BUT, if you ARE in the market for a good, fun shonen romp that uses and plays around with tropes, delivering both action packed and comedy filled scenes all in one go and doing it well, then this is the series for you.
