A resounding 'Meh'

This game had potential. Its comedy is good. Its characters are colorful and fun. Its combat system is flashy and entertaining. The problem is that all of these things are also extremely inconsistent, superficial and oftentimes rushed.

The characters in particular suffer greatly from the lack of focus and the lack of any continuous narrative segments longer than five minutes. Aside of the core trio every other character is defined by one or two characteristics that gets milked for comedy over and over and that's about it. As for the main characters, they are slightly better but their personalities still feel more like someone going down a "Stereotypical anime character archetypes" list and assigning characteristics to them at random.

The story is an even bigger disappointment, as I actually love the core idea of the second arc. I always had a soft spot for "going back in time to right things using future knowledge/power" stories. Too bad here they also introduced random things that also changed just because, partially negating the main strength of such stories, the progression of butterfly-effects spreading from the heroes' actions. My main gripes with it is the same as with the rest of the game's aspects: it feels rushed, superficial and just not very well thought out in general.

The gameplay on the other hand is pretty good, but even it has its share of problems, such as the lack of real customization options or the lots and lots of grinding that gets to annoying levels even by JRPG standards.

Overall this is the video-game equivalent of a low-budget, hyper-condensed shounen anime. It looks fun, it is flashy, it has comedy and fanservice and over-the-top fights, but the story is rushing along at mach 20 at best and completely incoherent at worst and the characters are cardboard cutouts. You still enjoy it for what it is, but at the end of the day it is nothing more than an amusing little time-waster that you probably forget about by the next day. If that was what you were looking for from the beginning, perfect. If you expected something more meaty, get ready to be disappointed.
