Spongebob is okay at best, but when you stop focusing on how long, successful, kid-friendly and insanely popular the series was and get right down to the actual quality, RML beats the ever-loving crap out of it.
RML is a simply beautiful show. Its art style is exquisite, its writing is absolutely godlike, its humor is both hilarious and brilliantly cynical, its characters are adorably charming and unique, And this is just the show's standard level of quality, although the show occasionally takes a few nosedives every now and then. Overall, the entire series is generally more or less top-notch.
As a white kid born in 1998, I have to say that RML is easily my favorite overall animated series of all time. Excellent show and right up there with South Park as the best satire of all time.
In conclusion, RML is indeed a woefully underrated and amazing experience. Sure, it may be a little edgy fo young children, but why are people complaining about this when absolute bullcrap like Sanjay & Craig exists? RML is kind of an adult show. Deal with it and stop complaining about how the show was on the wrong network.
