An improvement on Brawl, and worth downloading

My friends and I consider ourselves pretty good players, but we don't play tournament-style, preferring a loose, "fun" game (though we still keep items off and stay away from the most gimmicky stages). Even not being tournament players, we all liked this mod in its "release" form (version 3), enough that we play it exclusively. They did a wonderful job of taking what makes Brawl great and combining it with the elements that make Melee great, without making it a dry experience that only top-level players can appreciate. We liked the new level set too, mostly for including Hyrule Caste for N64 minus tornadoes. There's also alternate uniforms, most characters from Melee (and all from Brawl), and some completely new moves. How'd they hack all this in?!

In short, no need to be a tournament-level player to enjoy this one, and it's worth the trouble to get it working on your Wii if you play Brawl with others (there's a hackless version available). While YMMV, we think it's an improvement on Brawl for multiplayer.

It's a shame they replaced some of the more interesting stages with dull, Battlefield-esque variants. Still, it makes sense, given the project's aim. I also don't like what they did to some characters - like G&W, Wario, or Falco - but that's a more minor concern. It may still be the best game, even if Brawl does a few things better.

You don't like what they did to Wario? :0 He's the most fun to play in this game. I LOVE that they included the Shoulder Bash from Wario Land!

I can understand Falco and Mr. Game & Watch, though. Their only improvements are obvious only to tournament level players, so coming from Brawl the changes must look bad.

I like what they did to Snake, but I'm disappointed that it makes Toon Link so broken.

Wario doesn't have the Bike now. That is disappointing. I blame their Nostalgia Filters in removing it.

To be honest, what was actually useful about the bike anyway? At best, it's an awkward offstage edgeguard (when throwing the bike off the stage onto the recovering opponent). I've found the Shoulder Bash to be more useful and fun to mess around with. And the two moves aren't that different anyway—they both do damage moving forward a lot, and both protect you to an extent.

The Bike can be used to extend recovery (by performing a dismount jump, then airjump, then recovery move) and its wheelie can avoid some hazards, like bananas and plenty of items. You can destroy it, then throw its parts to pressure opponents.

Besides, there's the sheer coolness of a Fighting game character using a motorcycle in battle.

I'm glad they added the Shoulder Bash (not sure why Brawl doesn't have such an iconic move), but I wouldn't have minded if that replaced the bite instead of the bike. The bike is awkward, but I feel they could have reworked it to be less awkward than it was in Brawl. Meanwhile the bite is just boring.

My favorite character so far is Ganondorf. Obviously they felt the need to buff him big time considering he's dead last in the NA Brawl tiers, so from a "loose play style" perspective (and especially in 4 player free-for-alls), he may be slightly overpowered, but not ridiculously, and he still has well defined drawbacks.

Playing with no items is a move for the cowardly.
