A very sweet story that does a pretty good job of describing what life would be like for someone like Luna is a school as clique oriented as Hogwarts. She's bullied, yes, but the author doesn't go over board or put her through any kind of trauma conga line. Luna is just a trusting and sweet hearted girl who lost her mom and just doesn't fit in with the rest of the student body. Much of what happens to her has less to do with malice and more to do with thoughtlessness and the mob mentality that seems to define our teenage years.
The relationship moves slowly (well... it is only about a month and a half by the end) and is full of tender moments between them. My one complaint is that they never explain why Harry starts developing these feelings for her in the first place. The mistletoe kiss is implied to have been something he wanted for a very long time but it's not much more than a couple paragraphs. Which is odd considering the level of detail paid to the rest of the development of Harry and Luna's relationship.
