This was my original entry for one of my newest theories. Just wanting to point out that, yes, I did think of the old game...

The new additions to the Pokedex came from Oore.

It's a region that had Trainers carrying Pokemon from earlier Generations. Perhaps their feral offspring finally made the long transcontinetal journey.

Golduck died of dysentary. While fording the Mississippi. However, you were only able to carry 45 kilograms back to the wagon.
