Expanded Universe is not a trope, at least not in the way you're using it to represent what is being said. Adaptation Expansion over Pragmatic Adaptation, perhaps, but not Expanded Universe.
Mass Recall takes some liberties with the story to better fit the lore. These include:
- Mengsk's parley with the UED takes place in orbit over Korhal; in the original game it took place on the same map on the planet itself. And again, the inclusion of General Warfield and Matt Horner.
- The introductory cutscenes are near universally original to this mod, but still work for the storyline; the UED shooting civilians on Korhal, Tassadar actually being brought before the Conclave to deliver his speech to them, Duran being shown actually sabotaging the psi disruptor after killing Stukov.
- The gameplay changes are made with the same mindset. In the original Starcraft Kerrigan has psionic storm and cannot attack air units, here she has Razor Swarm and *can* attack them. A deviation from the original game to stay truer to the lore.
- A minor change, but still one that stuck out to me, the presence of a Sensor Tower around the Norad II to show how many zerg are nearby.
These are off the top of my head, I'd have to take a look at each individual mission to remind myself of more.
Edited by DrakeClawfangAh, I see what you mean now.
Tropes like Pragmatic Adaptation or Adaptation Expansion are about changing *the story* in significant ways to better fit the new medium. The whole point of MR is that it doesn't change the story, except by adding some of the Dummied Out material.
Gameplay and scenery changes might be qualified as Pragmatic Adaptation of a sort. Not all building sizes are strictly identical, you can select more than 12 units, cutscenes are 3D and so forth.
In short, my concern is that an Adaptation trope would make people think the original story was reworked. Pragmatic Adaptation for the gameplay or Adaptation Expansion for the cutscenes could fit, as long as the text clarifies that the plot and dialogs are unchanged. Although, is it legitimate to apply these tropes to things other than the plot?
I've written something along these lines, you can tweak the text a little if you like.
I don't think this mod does qualifies as Pragmatic Adaptation. The page describes it as changing a significant part of the story due to the constraints of an other medium. Here the story is exactly the same, the only changes are minor gameplay points. Pragmatic Adaptation means far greater changes than that. I favor Extended Universe for this paragraph, since these changes were made with the lore from other sources in mind.
