The implication that the allegations against Vic are somehow true is not only insulting, but also not very professional.

In regard to this paragraph:

  • Movie director Tatsuya Nagamine said that the reason for the absence of Super Saiyan Blue Kaioken, Super Saiyan Blue Evolution, and Ultra Instinct in the movie itself is due to him thinking that the TV series "broke its limits" and he didn't want Goku and Vegeta to break their limits again so soon after the Tournament of Power while also wanting to showcase how much of a difference there is between Super Saiyan God and Super Saiyan Blue. This seems to play into Goku and Vegeta's decision to use the Fusion Dance instead. The interview also confirms that the movie is set in the Super anime's continuity with both the interviewer and Nagamine mentioning the TV series as the base for the movie's fight scenes.

And T3rr0rd0me's reasoning against my removal of it: "Semantics. The fact that they never once mentioned the manga and that the movie was made right after the heels of the anime's version of the Universe Survival arc already confirms this to be the case. Don't be obtuse."

All of those reasons seem to come from his wish to say the movie is explicitly part of the anime continuity, when in fact it's neutral to both continuities. Despite the fact nothing in that paragraph can be gathered from the link to the interview provided. The reason they mention the anime in that interview V Jump was asking about his experience with it. No statement is made beyond his comments on how producing the final battle of Super went (again, in response to an interview question) and how Toriyama's script escalating made it easy to throw in transformations. It's not mere semantics to say that one can't gather that it's "set in the anime's continuity" from that. The movie was also released a month after the Tournament of Power had finished in the manga, so the excuse "the movie was made right after the heels of the anime's version of the Universe Survival arc" would even be more apt for the manga's case, but it's bad reasoning in general. Hence why I remove that paragraph.

It's not neutral to both continuities. Maybe actually use your brain because the movie was in development long before Toyotaro's manga even reached the end of the Tournament of Power so that reasoning of yours isn't "apt" as you called it, especially when the movie has Goku being fired up to fight even more by Ribrianne and Kefla, which would only happen had he actually fought them. Let's see what else the movie has: a flashback to Freeza's time in Hell which never happened in Toyotaro's manga because he skipped the Resurrection 'F' storyline and went right to Universe 6. And before you use his manga promotion for Resurrection 'F', note that it's unfinished so which version is he going to use, the anime's with all the additions or the unfinished one that leaves everything blank? Goku and Vegeta's Super Saiyan Blue forms in the movie also incorporates traits from Kaioken Blue and Blue Evolution, both anime-exclusive forms. And before you say something about Vegeta having Super Saiyan God which he only used in the manga, the form requires god energy which he attained during his training with Whis and Goku back in, you guessed it, the anime's version of Resurrection 'F'.

The fact that the manga's version of the Universe Survival arc ended a month before the movie aired doesn't change a thing considering Toyotaro had to rush in order to meet the movie's release. Everything about the movie was already developed months before Toyotaro's version of the arc finished. Why would the animators use an incomplete arc from Toyotaro when they already finished their own version of it in March?

Nagamine explicitly noted that he felt that the TV series "broke limits" and he didn't want Goku and Vegeta to break their limits again so soon after the Tournament of Power's ending. Did we actually watch the same movie or read the same interview? You basically drowned your "neutral" argument by saying Nagamine had a hand in the Tournament of Power's conclusion so why would he use the manga, a medium he never touched?

So yes, your argument amounts to semantics. You want them to outright say the words "oh the movie is set in the anime's continuity" when the interview and the movie itself speak for themselves.

I'd just like to mention that this announcement pretty conclusively proves where the Broly movie stands in canon. It's one of the very first things Toriyama said about the new movie, and these are the key quotes:

"The Dragon Ball Super movie this time around will be the next story that takes place after the anime that's currently on TV."

"By the way, I think the highly popular Dragon Ball Super manga, drawn by Toyotaro, is going to see some developments different from the TV anime or movies, so please look forward to that."

These two quotes show pretty definitively that the Broly movie was originally just a continuation of the anime, and Toyotaro was originally going to cover his own version of Broly in the manga before he decided to skip it.

Hey Gilded 97, There's no justification for this entry to be deleted.

Everything that T3rr0rd0me and Pushover Media Critic said is true.

the only change that the entry could have is to separate the part of the continuity in its own entrance and add the source of the Forbes page that Pushover Media Critic found

Pushover Media Critic and Ricardo Renegado

Yeah. Apart from the Word of God, the movie also shows Goku and Vegeta's Blue forms having similarities to the anime's Blue Kaioken and Blue Evolution, respectively.

Since this discussion seems to have reached a conclusion, I'll add back the interview with Nagamine as well as add the interview with Toriyama that Pushover Media Critic posted.

Firstly, in response to the suggestion their Blue forms had similarity to Kaioken and Evolution, that is baseless, as their auras were identical.

Secondly, the newest movie, a direct sequel to DBS Broly (with Broly training with Goku on Beerus' planet now) is actually using Gohan's manga design using Piccolo's outfit, instead of the anime's design with Goku's gi. Due to this, I believe it's warranted to say that this film does NOT explicitly take place in only the anime continuity, and as such should be edited accordingly.

On the The Other Darrin part: I thought Aya Asakawa already replaced Hiromi Tsuru as Bulma in a brief scene in one of the last episodes of Super.

Nope, Tsuru played Bulma for her last appearances in Super.
