Flipping this, having an asexual character, one who is genuinely not interested in the harem, is the much darker "stalker" type — when the "harem" is all in the protagonist's head, and they are all genuinely not interested.

I'm having trouble parsing this sentence. It feels like it's saying that, in contrast to the previous sentence about a perfect running after all the women, there's a "darker stalker type" subversion wherein the harem isn't interested in the protagonist but he pursues them anyway. Or a version where a bunch of women want the guy but the guy is Asexual and therefore is not interested in having a harem. But these are mutually exclusive ideas, and so should be different sentences.

Or maybe it's intended to be a mix? An Asexual who pursues relationships despite not wanting sex (or maybe not even romance)? An Asexual who believes that women are after him despite them not wanting him, and therefore... there isn't actually a harem anime happening in the first place? A stalker pursuing an asexual character who doesn't want to be part of the harem?

Anyway, if someone could figure out what the intended meaning was, and rephrase to clarify (possibly breaking into multiple sections), that would be useful.

Only the curious have, if they live, a tale worth telling at all.
