Made a correction - Grylls was in the SAS(R), rather than the SAS. He was one of the Artists Rifles, Properly known as the 21 Special Air Service Regiment (Artists) (Reserve), a volunteer force.

Basically, the difference is that the SAS draws from the army, but SAS(R) are able to volunteer directly from civilian life. It doesn't make him any less bad-ass - you still have to pass selection, which isn't that much less strict or strenuous than the SAS selection, but accuracy is important in these matters.

Does anyone else get the feeling there's a bit of backlash in the writing concerning staging relative to Survivorman?

Yes, definitely. Tellingly, the dot points are from the Survivorman page. I think I'll delete it, if anyone wants to restore it they know where to look.
