It's been a while since I read this, and I lost my copy, so I can't find the name of the character, but might the arrogant superstar character slightly fit something similar to "Love at First Punch"? The guy is excessively aware of his own good looks, and as a result of his viewing admiration as overly normal, he instead "falls in love" with anyone who shows disrespect or dislike toward him, much to the further annoyance of anyone who realizes he's a total jerk.
