Dunno about anybody else, but I know that my first visit to Colonial Williamsburg was on the strength of "The Bobbsey Twins' Red, White and Blue Mystery," which is set there. And upon my arrival, I found that the Stratemeyer researchers were VERY thorough, and that I could find my way around based on my memories of a children's novel (which even got the color of the shuttle buses right).
I was never so prepared in advance for a visit to a place. And all from a children's novel.
