Along with thriftiness goes the inhertant skill to reuse ordinary objects in new ways or repair things beyond a normal person's ability. The American TV show Mac Gyver is really just a showcase for a Scottish-American man to build unlikely things using only ordinary objects. The original Star Trek featured a ship mechanic cleverly named Scotty who would eke performances out of the ship's engine beyond it's design or repair it with almost no resources nearly every episode.
Can I just be surprised that there isn't a picture of Scrooge Mc Duck on this page?
