In Star Trek The Next Generation the Cairn were a humanoid species with no vocal cords and communicated through telepathy. Their telepathy sent images rather than words, which allowed for a faster and more efficient exchange of information.

Technically, don't all video game characters that use text boxes communicate telepathically? The definition of speaking is using your voice to say words. Video game characters don't have voices. They talk without voices. Deaf people and mute people do the same.
