Do they need to switch back in order for it to be an example?
I'm thinking of a book where one character was set to become the leader of their society, and the other was awaiting execution, and the former ends up being executed, and the latter gets the throne that was meant for the former. Not exactly something they can switch back from (though the dead one does come back)...
