Ménage à 3 employs this for comedy on occasion:

See strip #750 (June 4, 2013; nonetheless NSFW) for one example. It's maybe doubly necessary and doubly funny here because Senna is a transsexual, and casual readers may not realise exactly what they're not seeing. Strip #756 (June 20, 2013, probably NSFW) also uses this. The added twist here is that Yuki may be able see the thing which is covered by the speech bubble — angles are hard to judge — but it will be better for everyone if she can't.

Questioning the utility of these specific references. We can't link directly to NSFW material, and the strip uses comic titles — not strip numbers or dates — so these can't be found in the archives, either. Recommend removing the citations and just mentioning the things that happened.

Image choice....why isn't the Hunter X Hunter Hisoka erection panels used? It literally shows an erection happening VIA speech bubble placement.

Is this trope limited to censoring private parts? Does it extend to covering of, say, faces for plot reasons?
