This trope should not be named Simon Says mini-game. Simon Says has nothing to do with this type of mini-game. Simon Says is about deceiving or otherwise tricking people into performing a command that isn't legitimate. SIMON is about repeating a series of commands that gradually increases in complexity. The ONLY reason people call this type of mini-game Simon Says is through error. Even wikipedia acknowledges this is a common error. Therefore i propose either

A) This trope should be changed to "Simon-like Mini Game" or "Repeating sequence mini game"

Or

B) The name be kept but the text should acknolwege the two games are gameplay-wise unrelated but the trope is called "Simon Says Mini Game" because it it popularly but erroneously called that.

You can bring this to the All-Purpose TRS thread, but don't count on getting much support from the troperbase if you don't make a wick check first.

Thank you for your advice. I've been reading up on the process of getting names changed. It would appear i need to make a thread on the TRS page which appears to be maxed out at 50 threads, unless i can bring the matter up in the all-purpose thread you mentioned.

This wick-check aspect is intriguing. On one had i don't see why it should be necessary. There appears to be a Mandela Effect clouding people's memory. The game where you copy lights is called Simon. It has always been called Simon. People CALL it Simon Says in casual conversation, and there exist knock-offs online that call it Simon Says, but AFAICS Hasbro/Milton Bradley has always called it Simon. If there was a trope called, I dunno, Bad News Berenstain Bears about anthropomorphic animals playing sports, but the trope was spelled Bad News Berenstein Bears, would i really need a wick check to demonstrate the title was misspelled?

That said, as Ive begun to analyse some of the examples in the Simon Says Minigame page it's clear there IS some form of ambiguity going on. Ive identified, so far, 3 things people seem to think SSMG should refer to:

A) Gameplay that matches Simon, the lights noise repeating game,

B) minigames where you have to match commands given by a person in a short space of time (eg The Chrono Trigger example). If you wanted to compare this to another electronic handheld game from the US it would be like Bop-It.

C) Games where you have to evaluate commands based on their validity (e.g. ACTUAL Simon Says). There are very few of these.

A case could be made that the trope is ambiguously named, and a wick check could be an interesting project however it's not the main part ofbmy argument. I'd just like the title to reflwcr the fact Simon Says is NOT the name of the repeating lights game, or at least an acknoledgement in the trope dezcription that the gsme is popularly but not actually called Simon Says.
