The argument that a bullet can't shoot down a hanging man because it's not as big as the rope is flawed. The bullet doesn't have to break all the fibers in the rope, only enough that the condemmed's weight (probably aided by desperate thrashing) can break the rest.
Should this trope also include shooting a projectile with a rope attached too it? Not just grappling hooks, but arrows and such?
