I wonder if devices Sobol (of Daniel Suarez' "Daemon" fame) comes up with qualify as this trope. One works like an exhausting, 46 hours long psychological test that uses EEG to measure victim's reaction to images containing certain themes. And if they fail or close their eyes for thirty seconds, they will get a fatal injection. Another is an automated interrogation system that works on similar principles, and extracts a lot of information out of a captive mercenary without him feeling any pain - or being able to do anything to stop it. And then there are "razorbacks", used creatively by a certain bot...

The IT-O interrogation device from Star Wars - On the wookiepedia it says that the HD versions of the movies show "British Made" and "200 ÂșC" written on one of its needles and/or syringes.
I feel it could go straight to a James Bond movie with no alterations whatsoever.
