The title seems confusing. It would seem to suggest someone who is destined to be a bystander, not a bystander with a destiny that intertwines with the hero's.

Well, "bystander" is defined in relation to the heroes, so...

Would Star Trek: Voyager count? Plot demanded that the extras become important by sheer inevitiability.
