I'm not sure if it's best to have an example image showing a literal crucification, since the trope is about characters (symbolically) ending up in a pose where they appear to be crucified.

I agree. The Platoon example would be the best bet, given that it's probably one of the most easily identifiable in popular culture.
This article's focus on anime seems to be heavily weighted as well. The description of the trope almost implies that it's a trope primarily found in animes, which is rather inappropriate.

Two Marilyn Manson Music Christies:
From album "Mechanical Animals":
Coma White: https://youtu.be/QQPJYnr48yU?t=226 (cross/Christlike imagery throughout)
I Don't Like the Drugs (But the Drugs Like Me): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6EefPcht54c. Opens with Manson bearing a cross made of T Vs. Ends with Manson about to jump off of a catwalk in a Christ-pose, possibly falls downwards in one, lands in one, which later turns into a cross of T Vs with Manson's relative body sections being shown (although the head is static).
