Waiting on a TRS slot? Finishing off one of these cleaning efforts will usually open one up.

The 1979 (AKA "original") Alien averted this pretty hard. Well-known obsessive director Ridley Scott had the prop makers wire every reachable button on the Nostromos control panels so they did something. Usually turn on lights somewhere on the bridge. The actors spent time pressing stuff during rehearsal so they could avoid the same-button-syndrome. The prop team were going for domino effects; pressing one thing in the navigation section would light up a control in comms. The person on comms would react and press something that lit up something on another panel etc etc.
