Does this have to be for just Action Girls? Especially in certain Asian settings, a long braid on a man tends to indicate a seriously powerful warrior.
Not a Truth in Television. Although sailing etc are referenced, since a lot of the media tropes mention fighting is it worth noting that in a fight a braid is just as bad as loose hair - in fact possibly worse, since if someone has a handful of your hair and you're willing to yank it out, you can get loose but if someone has a hold of your braid you're kind of stuck.
