It's a corridor that leads to a boss *, so it counts. What it was originally supposed to be shouldn't matter.
Experience has taught me to investigate anything that glows.
An odd thought: Sonic The Hedgehog 2 (Genesis/Megadrive version): The final level, Death Egg Zone, was supposed to be a whole level, but most of it got Dummied Out. So the level in the finished game is literally just an empty corridor and then two boss fights. Would that still qualify as an example?
