Thinking about the basic difference in definition between the USA and Britain, in defining the term "Asian". This depends on historic context - Americans will think of the Far East first, so that "Asian" to them is Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Philipino, et c. With maybe one exception, this is an American -orientated index.
Meanwhile Britain, with old Empire days in memory, associates the word Asian, first and foremost, with India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka. Far Eastern ethnicities are a secondary association.
A quote that beautifully defines the difference comes from Pakistani-British comedian Eishaan Akbhar:
When I say "Asian", you know I mean "Curry Asian" and not "Noodle Asian".... don't you?
