Re Melisande Stokes: I find the Maeterlinck association most likely (if only because Pelléas & Mélisande are in some very, very very very rough way parallel to Tristan & Iseult... erm...ok- not very, though the story begins and ends with some similar things) - but it's also conceivable that somehow there's a Nesbit Literature:Melisande connection (though I don't see it.)
