I do not think that Straw Nihilist fits here. I have not read the book, but in the film, it is clear that Annie believes in God, so she is not a nihilist. Annie is maybe depressive and psychopathic, but nihilism is not the same as depression and psychopathy, it is a philosophical point of view that is not compatible with belief in God.

I'm inclined to agree. Annie makes a comment in the book during her trial saying that she doesn't believe babies are ensouled, which implies that she believes in souls, she just doesn't believe babies have them (an obvious excuse, but she was a true Straw Nihilist, why even bother?). As for the movie, I haven't seen it for a while but looking up stills of Kathy Bates revealed what I thought I remembered, that she wears a crucifix. The person who added that trope most likely did so out of error or confused Annie's belief that life without Paul is meaningless (from her movie-only Villainous Breakdown) with nihilism. Despair Event Horizon would be more fitting for that scene, I think.
