Mmk, what words are going to be the "official" ones used on the page? In general we have three choices: 1) Use the original Japanese (ex. "Bakenezumi"), 2) Use the fan translation (ex. "queerats"), or 3) Use the anime's translation (ex. "monster rats"). The page used to have a mix of all three, which I liked since it didn't force you to choose between novel and anime. However, someone's recently been editing everything to fit the anime translations. For one, I /hate/ "ogre" instead of "fiend" or "akki". It sounds silly and makes people think of Shrek-style ogres. For another, some words like "queerats" have a Woolseyism effect, making it feel more native to English. So are we sticking to one translation (opinions be damned), or no?

Due to... differences in translation between various translators of this work, I suggest that the in-universe technical terms be kept strictly romanized for this page (Juryoku, Bakenezumi etc), since there are various valid ways for these terms to be translated. This way, the page is kept consistent and accurate. I've done this now.

When an official release from Sentai Filmworks appears, they can be updated to reflect the translation choices made by Sentai's translators.

Why not go with the Crunchyroll official translation?

While it's entirely possible that Crunchyroll's translation will be used by Sentai, it's not certain, so it's probably better to wait for the more "definitive" Sentai release (since Crunchyroll's translations are done in a much smaller timeframe, without the benefit of knowing the whole series first).

There's the possibility that the translator has read the novel...

In any case, I agree it's best to keep it uniform, and I'd rather not see any mention of "Cantus" but I think we can safely refer to "Jyuryoku" as "power"...

I think it's best to leave it as it is until the official English dub comes out.

And just another question, why is this page listed under "Literature" when clearly all examples are taken from the anime? Sure, it is a novel but the only version most people here are familiar with is the anime adaptation.

Can't someone make this page also searchable by the book's/anime's original title, "Shinsekai yori"? I would do so but forgot how to... :D;;

...What's meant by "when you see it, you'll float bricks"? I don't see anything out of the ordinary in the pic. Is the "when you see it" supposed to be Squeera? That monster rat general?

There used to be a different image for this page. Looks like either the caption or the picture should be changed at this point.

Anyone want to start a character page? I think we have enough of an idea of the characters and their traits to start one.

Someone had started it, and I've taken the liberty to a few tropes. However, I'm still fairly new to this, so I would like some others to overlook everything and correct any mistakes as well as add more details, in particular the initial character biographies/descriptions.

I still have to question the "Everybody Has Lots of Sex"-entry. Yes, it's pretty clearly true in the adolescent stage, but it was most definately not in effect during the field trip. The deal with Saki and Satoru was pretty clearly a unique incident.
