He says he is and on a Doylist level, we don't have a lot of reasons to doubt him.
Him being a celestial explains why Starlord could handle that Infinity Stone in GOG V1 and not be blown apart like Carina, we are explicitly told that only Celestials could wield that and not be destroyed...so Peter being part-Celestial, and Ego being Celestial makes sense with that.
Is Ego ACTUALLY a Celestial?
