It was a a bit of a difficult find.
Huh, thanks unown, it was nice to finally figure out what I was missing with that fic. I've referred your source to a black company fanfic recs thread, so it's preserved in places where people are likely to easily find it.
Edited by dochylodudeSo I've been reading further into that fic I mentioned, and it's actually really good, and I decided to just take the risk of doing something wrong and try to put up a recommendation on the fanfic recs page. Unfortunately my efforts to just copy the link formatting from the other entry on the page have failed, While I got something vaguely-acceptable-looking up, it's pretty clearly not how it's supposed to be done, please help.
Never mind, I figured out the problem was embarrassingly simple right after I posted the last post.
Found an obscure fanfiction for this: https://www.fimfiction.net/story/344288/in-the-company-of-night
It's a black company as My Little Pony characters fic(distinct from the Black company in Equestria fic by Underscore that disappeared from the internet before I could learn of it). It appears well-written, cynical in a vaguely-soldierly way, and seems to show the same tendency towards hardassery and underhandedness as the characters do in the original books. It's just that, rather than worshippers of Kina sending the Black Company to ensure her resurrection, in this setting the company was founded by the exiled followers of Nightmare Moon, and after one thousand years the prophesied alignment of the stars is finally coming about, and the day of her release from her lunar prison is soon to be at hand. The things that draw me to think about recommending it are thus: it's 200+ chapters of reasonable length long, the first seven chapters are pretty good(there are no technical or grammar deficiencies, and the writing is engaging), and there are comments I read regarding sections further in that say things along the lines of 'yeah I could totally see the Black Company doing that'.
Also, while we're discussing, I really liked the Black Company in middle earth one, and am sort of interested in how most crossover fanfics of the Black Company seem to use the company itself as a character, with the members being different, and the cannon characters being in the past history of the company.
I'm unfamiliar with the fanfic recs process, Do I need other people to also recommend it? or do I need to finish reading it all the way through before I try to add it to the recommendations page? do I need to set up anything with my account to make the recommendation?
