Well, he's an Internet-fic author, for a start. I love the guy's work, especially Sailor Nothing, but let's keep some perspective here.
What's precedent ever done for us?If we're going to keep perspective, then let's remember that TF started this thing back in '98, same year that FF.net was born, and prior to that the Slayers fanfic community was positively tiny — especially compared to the modern Naruto and Harry Potter fanfic communities — so calling it "the best work to date" isn't nearly as much of a stretch as calling it, say, "the best Slayers fanfic OF ALL TIME".
And given that there's still less than 5,000 Slayers fanfics on FF.net, I'd still be inclined to say it's probably either the best Slayers fanfic on the internet or that it's at least in the top 1%.
Edited by ComartemisOh, I wasn't commenting on the 'big ego' side of things - I assumed that a small sample size was the reason he made the claim. It's just that even if he is pretty well-acclaimed within certain parts of the Internet, we shouldn't let that blind us to the fact that he's not exactly a household name.
Sorry - I'm a pedant like that.

"The first, and arguably the best work in Slayers to date. — Twoflower, summarizing Slayers Trilogy"
A bit Small Name, Big Ego there?
