Concerning Bronte's motivations, I don't think they're as "for teh evulz" as proposed. Bronte expected the van den Linde gang to disposable guns for hire. His entire reason for inviting them to the party was to point out targets to Dutch for liquidation and when Dutch told them they were not open to any old wetwork Bronte clearly took offense, while claiming not to understand.
With the gang having no obvious utility to him, Bronte though he could dispose of them while strengthening his connection with the police by making them look good.
