Can someone add cloudcuckoolander to Arle's page since her waku waku 4koma characterization is uhhhh
Edited by somepersonnamedcaloyI still think Schezo qualifies for ambiguous disorder It's not a headcanon I'm just reading inbetween the lines Him saying his ears are corroding in Waku Puyo is already stated in another trope In Puyo Puyo Sun the interaction doesn't end with Schezo saying he doesn't need a healthy image, Arle literally tells him he's perfect for growing mushrooms The way he talks alone could qualify as a speech disorder though the way he loves cute things is more supporting evidence to everything else than anything Arle even calls him special in her training theater As someone who has mental disorders I might be able to see it easier than someone who doesn't, and I think he qualifies for ambiguous disorder
Hide / Show RepliesDon't get me wrong, I like it as a headcanon, but I still find this stuff to be a stretch to actually consider this a part of his canon personality. I'm willing to put this under Alternate Character Interpretation in the YMMV page as a compromise.
Goddammit, Schezo...I hope this doesn't sound rude but I would rather have no changes than Alternate Character Interpretation Not out of principle or anything, it just doesn't seem like it fits for this to me and it would stick out like a sore thumb but probably only for me I think that would be for things added to the character, but for Ambiguous Disorder I was only going off of things that already happened in canon Sorry if that sounded rude but it's the way I see things
Schezo's entry's getting a bit long. I think if it gets much longer it might be worth putting him on his own page.
Oissu! This has been discussed on the Fever characters discussion page, but it fits better here and needs to be adressed.
Champions introduced severaly controversial name changes and Strange Klug and Demon Servant are in the process of having their name changes stick for the TV Tropes pages and I think it's about time Satan/Dark Prince goes the same way.
It was a little understandable when PPT was localized and his name was the only majorly different one, but at this point this special treatment for him is causing more uncertainty in how to name characters here then it's worth, it took until recent days for anyone to even bring up Possessed Klug on the Fever characters page, because nobody knew how to handle it.
Hide / Show RepliesHonestly, while that is understandable I am still against it. Considering how many tropes that he has, I kinda want Satan to have his own page. As for every mention of his name as the page is right now, that should remain the same since some stuff was never officially translated into English.
Edited by CybranGeneralSturmEvery character has a bunch of stuff that was never officially translated. Heck, Serilly had an officially-translated game that called her Seriri and yet the name still changed here with the release of Champions. At this point, it's getting very difficult to logically defend leaving him as Satan in light of the other name changes. The Fanon Discontinuity trope (taken down a notch or two) is sufficient to explain that a lot of fans don't like Dark Prince, while still making the change on the pages themselves.
Also, I don't think that any character deserves their own dedicated page at this point. Haven't taken a line-by-line count, but I don't think that Dark Prince is significantly longer than Arle, Rulue, or especially Schezo.
None of the characters have a long enough character sheet to warrant their own page as of now.
And yeah, I said it on the Fever discussion page, but leaving Satan as just that is pure jerry picking, I mean Strange Klug had none of his proper appearences localized and yet nobody is overtly opposed to using his new english name, despite it's mixed reception in the fandom, so why should Satan be any different?
Is it really even an issue? Bowlderization or not it's the one name change that's been consistent for everything except a small Mobile collab, it's by all means the least arguable name change there is.
Really shouldn't matter, it's official and should take priority over preferences.
I mean the same fans were able to enjoy and praise the localization of PPT despite Dark Prince, so it REALLY shouldn't be that hard of a pill to swallow.
Official or not, it's still a poison pill. Let's also not forget that the last time someone wanted this change, it got downvoted. A clock was also set, and time ran out without an agreement so the change never happened.
Except changing Black Sig/Black Kikimora/Black Popoi can be construed as Bowdlerization too (notice how Black ______ gets changed in localization for things aimed at kids more often than not, like Black/Dark Magician Girl in Yu-Gi-Oh), and not a whole bunch of people are making a fuss about that.
And that thread ended with lack of consensus, with the explicit note not to use that thread as the basis of anything. Note also that that was before Champions released. The entire point of it being brought back up is that since there is now mixed reception for multiple names, we should go with English everything instead of trying to pick-and-choose.
Edited by LtQuattroOr the series could go full-blown T-Rated and/or cut Satan from the roster altogether.
Edited by CybranGeneralSturmThat's really the big thing, Dark Prince is no longer the only notably contested name change, which leads to a strong sense of uncertainty on what names to even use, like Possessed Klug is plenty disliked as well and it took until the past few days for something to happen in regards to that one.
Using the English names for everything is simply the cleanest and most logical way to go about things, it let's everybody know what to use from the start.
The whole Satan situation is pure cherry picking as is and I prefer Satan over Dark Prince myself, but it overtly complicates things and hurts consistency, there shouldn't be any special cases to begin with.
Edited by warelanderEh, screw consistency. It may be cherry picking on not just my part, but that's how some things go.
Long story short: I'll just have my sandbox to keep Satan's name as-is.
Edited by CybranGeneralSturmI'm all for the change in all instances of Satan to Dark Prince. It's consistent. I don't have to like it, but I'm okay with it.
Maybe add somewhere, idk where, that the fandom tends to prefer "Satan" regardless.
Goddammit, Schezo...My preference would be to ignore all Champions names or just stick them in brackets because the fandom's been calling them something else for ages now, but whatever floats your boat I guess. Satan's a special case because he has been called Satan in an official Sega-endorsed game (Sonic Runners) so switching it seems really pointless.
Oissu!Even then Dark Prince wins in terms of consistency, a major localized release for the series like PPT holds more weight to me then a Moblile collab that probably had little thought put into it's translation.
Besides if we go by that then it opens up a whole different can of worms, Raffine has been around for longer, is still used as her romanized name in japanese materials and appeared in the west as late as Sonic Runners, yet we still switched to Raffina.
We at least still have Raffine in brackets. I would definitely be against removing the Satan part altogether, because looking at the super srs backstory he really is the story's Lucifer figure. I know it's for consistency's sake but it just feels really wrong to change in favour of a Bowlderization that is firmly in Fanon Discontinuity territory.
Oissu! We can always keep Satan in brackets and make mention of his original name if it's needed for added context for certain tropes, works well enough to me, especially since the backstory isn't even terribly relevant to Satan 99% of the time.
As it is right now, this page only uses Satan's name for anything related to games that never got officially translated. As an example, the bit about him being a headmaster:
Another point would be this bit from the fan translation of 15th:
- Yu: "Satan? So then you're a star?"
Then again, he is pretty much named Lucifer in the super serious backstory before the Creator forbade him from using that name. Admittedly, the Dub Name Change probably would be applied to these two bits if the games were officially translated.
Edited by CybranGeneralSturmHeads up that I plan on changing everything over within the next few days unless anyone else has anything to add.
Sounds good to me, my points in favor of changing it all still stand.
Since the changes occurred, farewell Puyo Puyo. Rest in ashes and dust...
EDIT: I have added to the Drinking Game sub-page that one should take a six-pack whenver someone calls that guy Satan instead of Dark Prince.
EDIT2: Satan/Draka Prince is known as the Gatekeeper in the N-Gage Puyo Pop translation.
Edited by CybranGeneralSturmArle is kind? Really? Wasn't she established as a huge jerk in the two SNES games, essentially giving Kirby a blueprint for his personality in Avalanche?

Not gonna lie, I think Carbuncle's Bonus Boss/Superboss entry should be replaced with True Final Boss. His appearances as a secret opponent fit this category way more than Bonus Boss.
